Health & Safety at Work Act etc 1974

This is the Health and Safety Policy Statement of D.I.V.S.S. Diverse Individual Varied Shared Spaces

Our statement of general policy is:

   to provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our volunteering activities;
   to consult with our members and volunteers on matters affecting their health and safety;
   to provide and maintain safe plant and equipment;
   to ensure safe handling and use of substances;
   to provide information, instruction and supervision for members and volunteers;
   to ensure all volunteers are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate training;
   to prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health;
   to maintain safe and healthy working conditions; and
   to review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.


Responsibilities

1   Overall and final responsibility for health and safety is that of

2   Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice is delegated to

Amanda Bowen

3   To ensure health and safety standards are maintained/ improved, the following people have responsibility in the following areas:

4   All members and volunteers have to:

   co-operate on health and safety matters; 
   not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety;
   take reasonable care of their own health and safety; and
   report all health and safety concerns to an appropriate person (as detailed in this policy statement).


Health And Safety Risks Arising From Our Work Activities

   Risk assessments will be undertaken by Sarah Kulwicki & Amanda Bowen
   The findings of risk assessments will be reported to: Kathleen Roberts
   Action required to remove/control risks will be approved by: All of the above
   Kathleen Roberts will be responsible for ensuring the action required is implemented.
   Amanda Bowen will check that the implemented actions have removed/reduced the risks.
   Assessments will be reviewed every 3 months or when the work activity changes, whichever is the soonest.


Consultation with Employees and Volunteers

Safe Plant And Equipment

   Sarah Kulwicki will be responsible for identifying all equipment/plant needing maintenance.
   Sarah Kulwicki will be responsible for ensuring effective maintenance procedures are drawn up.
   Kathleen Roberts will be responsible for ensuring that all identified maintenance is implemented.
   Any problems found with plant/equipment should be reported to Kathleen Roberts
   Sarah Kulwicki will check that new plant and equipment meets health and safety standards before it is purchased.


Safe Handling And Use Of Substances

No substances will be used by any member or participant within the D.I.V.S.S Group

   Assessments will be reviewed every 4 four weeks or when the work activity changes, whichever is the soonest.


Information, Instruction And Supervision

   The Health And Safety Law poster is displayed at Allan Barker Pavilion 
   Health and safety advice is available from Kathleen Roberts
   Supervision of young workers/trainees will be arranged/undertaken/monitored by Kathleen Roberts
   Sarah Kulwicki is responsible for ensuring that employees and volunteers working at locations under the control of other employers, are given relevant health and safety information.


Competency For Tasks And Training

   Induction training will be provided for all employees by Amanda Bowen
   Job specific training will be provided for all employees by Various agencies 
   Specific jobs requiring special training are


First Aid, Sports specific trainers, Food Hygiene

   Training records are kept at Coningsby Town Council office
   Training will be identified, arranged and monitored by Sarah Kulwicki 


Accidents, First Aid and Work-Related Ill Health

   The first aid box is kept at  Allan Barker Sports Pavilion 
   The appointed person(s)/first aider(s) is/are (TBN) & (TBN)
   All accidents and cases of work-related ill health are to be recorded in the accident book.  The book is kept at/by Allan Barker Sports Pavilion/ (TBN) or (TBN)
   Amanda Bowen is responsible for reporting accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authority (HSE or local authority).


Monitoring

   To check our working conditions, and ensure our safe working practices are being followed, we will
   Check and clear all play surfaces before start of sessions 
   Carry out spot checks at regular intervals at least once weekly
   Investigate all accidents or incidents thoroughly and act on findings immediately  

   
   Sarah Kulwicki is responsible for investigating accidents.

   N/A is responsible for investigating work-related causes of sickness absences.
   Should a volunteer be injured whilst on D.I.V.S.S business then this would be investigated by the management team

   Kathleen Roberts is responsible for acting on investigation findings to prevent a recurrence.


Emergency Procedures – Fire and Evacuation

Building and Multi Use Games area used by Coningsby All Sports are owned and maintained by Coningsby Town Council

   Coningsby Town Council is responsible for ensuring the fire risk assessment is undertaken and implemented.
   Escape routes are checked by Volunteer in charge that day every Week.
   Fire extinguishers are maintained and checked by Coningsby Town Council every 3 months
   Alarms are tested by Coningsby Town Council every 3 Months
   Emergency evacuation will be tested every 6 months, fire drill
