16th June 2026 - Burial Board

 
Notes from the Burial Board and amenities working group – 18th June 2026 at 6pm 
Present: Cllr(s) Sharples, Walker and Donnellan. 

1.  Walk around of area to discuss any maintenance requirements
* All present where pleased overall with how well the cemetery looked and the grass cutting was superior to previous years. 
* Rabbit activity, clerk provided quotes for works to remove rabbits from 1 contractor
* All boundary hedges need to be cut back and topped to 6ft in height, all suckers to be removed. 
* Spray weeds in curbed graves
* Cllr Donnellan volunteered to paint bench next to war memorial in the cemetery 
* 6 sunk graves, to be levelled. 
* Rabbit holes to be filled plus other sunken areas
* Mole activity to be reported to Milday pest control. 
* Evergreen bush to be cut back 

2. Visual inspection of chapel 
It was noted that the building is quite full. Items unused to be reviewed and removed after next burial board meeting is no longer needed. First aid kit present and in date 04-2029, accident book on site. 
Works need to outside of chapel include removal of cement and replacing with lime mortar and brick faces to be replaced. This can be done in sections to keep costs down, grant funding options to be investigated. 

3. To discuss current burial fees – (see sheet below – page 2) 
Current feeds discussed it is recommended to council to increase all fees by 25%, please note the last price increase was in 2022.  

4. War memorial, current and any proposed street furniture 
The clerk told all that permission has been given to install another planter outside cooplands to help deter parking on the footway. Recommend to the council to purchase another planter. 
There is currently a pole installed to the front of the Pingle nature reserve it was recommended that the council suggest to the LIONS to have a sign erected on to this to make people aware that the nature reserve is there. A brown sign was suggested. 
Wreath removal policy discussed, recommend to council to remove wreaths at the end of January in line with Christmas wreath removal.
